The Baltic States
Estonia and Latvia were both independent republics from 1918 until 1940, when they were incorporated into the Soviet Union. Both countries became independent again in 1991.
Lithuania was Russian until occupied by Germany during the First World War. The country was independent between 1918 and its incorporation into the Soviet Union in 1940 and declared independence in 1990.
Central Lithuania was an independent state between 1918 and its absorption into Poland in 1922. It’s still absorbed.
