Croatia

Independent until 1393, Croatia became part of Hungary and, from 1918, it was part of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and slovenes, known as Yugoslavia from 1929. Germany invaded in 1941 and a puppet kingdom, comprising croatia and Bosnia-Hercegovina, was created. In 1945, the country became a state in the new Federation of Yugoslavia. Croatia was the first Yugoslav republic to declare independence on 26 th June, 1991 and its rapid recognition by Germany ensured the demise of the six-republic federation of Yugoslavia.
